Chapter 343: Crazy, Stupid, Love... and that Bitch
Chapter 343: Crazy, Stupid, Love… and that Bitch
Magnus was in the Great Hall. It was currently study hours, right before dinner. The place was big enough to act as a place for all to study here or do homework. This also helped them focus, as they would not have to move for dinner.
He was reading a book about organic chemistry. Emma soon came and sat beside him, she looked at what he was reading, “Woah, those are some nice designs. Are these tattoos?”
*Facepalm* “These are not designes, Emma. This is Chemistry, something like Alchemy but for muggles. It is the study of natural and man-made elements. Believe it or not, their study is much deeper than ours. It’s giving even me a headache. So many stupid exceptions.” He explained to her.
She embarrassingly nodded. Magnus noticed this and he patted her hand, making her heart race due to this sudden closeness. “You are not dumb, Emma. If you are, then all other students in this school are retarded. It’s our own shortcomings that we have deemed all muggle subjects pointless and backwards. Wizards still think about Muggles from the point of view of before the 1800s. This is the result of our isolation policies.”
“Then… do you suggest we remove the Statute of Secrecy?” She asked him curiously.
He scoffed, “Sure, if we want to start a war between muggles and wizards, then why not. No, what I suggest is that the ICW holds Muggle World Evaluation every 5 years to see what has changed in the muggle world in every single category. Then compile all the data in two parts, useful to Wizards and not useful. Subjects such as physics, biology and chemistry if taught to wizards can help us greatly.”
Emma suddenly jumped in her seat and grabbed his arm. This time Magnus internally blushed. Emma had forgotten that she was not flat chested anymore. He could feel a soft sensation on his arm. But he managed to keep a straight face. “Magnus, why don’t you become the Headmaster of the school after you graduate?”
Magnus thought about it, “Hmm… I can easily get the old man to retire. NAH… too much work. That job ain’t for me. I’ll let someone else be the headmaster and advise him.”
“What are you two talking about… Oh… romance? Go on.” Ragnar suddenly arrived and saw them sitting so close to each other.
This gave Magnus an easy chance to tease Emma. He suddenly put his arm around her shoulder and pulled her even closer, “So what? She says she likes me, even proclaimed it publically in Beauxbatons. This much intimacy should be normal.”
“Ba… Ba… Ma… I NEED TO GO!” She stuttered and quickly ran away, her face flushed and cheeks reddened. However, in all that overwhelmingness, she forgot to notice that his words implied something, that he didn’t reject her feelings now.
Back in the Hall, Ragnar smugly looked at him. He saw it through, “You acknowledge her feelings now? I hope you do.”
“He’s right” Servers also sat beside him, apparently, he saw it all. Including 3 dozen girls who were now fuming with jealousy. He continued, “Please don’t play with her if you don’t feel anything.”
Magnus snorted, slightly angry, “Then you two don’t know me I guess. I’m not stupid, you two. I know her feelings are genuine. For Merlin’s sake, she was ready to fight Voldemort and his army… just because I asked, and she isn’t even magically that strong. Then, after my battle with the werewolves, she searched for me the whole night, exhausted, beaten, injured from a few curses, she flew all over the Forbidden Forest.
“She was on the verge of dying that night, man. Her fricking Boggart is my dead body. So if her feelings are not real, then I don’t know what is real in this world anymore.”
Magnus said this loud and clear, making other girls hear him too, this was his way to make sure nobody dares to bully Emma, or else they shall face his wrath.
“Then why don’t you just accept her. We are clearly in the dating age. She had clearly hit puberty long ago.” Severus inquired. From how Magnus spoke, it was clear that he was also serious about her.
Magnus sighed, in a show of internal frustration in his mind. “I… I have some personal problems… problems that do not allow me to make such decisions. I’d end up hurting her in the future otherwise.”
Ragnar, who sat on Magnus’ other side, patted his hand on his back. He knew what that problem was, it was a curse of impotence, a price for all this power he had.
Severus didn’t know though, but he was smart enough not to ask any further. “All I can say is… from my experience. It is better to not hide your feelings and problems from others. You should at least tell her what your problem is. If she is ready to die for you, I think she will keep that secret and still feel the same about you. It’s better than making her go through all the frustration.”
Magnus and Ragnar noticed Severus sadly looking at Lily, sitting two rows from the table across the room. She was sitting with her female friends, but the Gryffindor four were not away either. They were talking with each other and laughing.
Magnus felt something was not right, so he asked, “Did you confess?”
Severus nodded, “I did.”
“And?” Ragnar inquired.
Severus looked down at the glass of water and his own image in it. He spoke, but before that he stealthily waved his wand, initiating some spell, it was new as Magnus and Ragnar had not seen it before. “I confessed to her this summer. I tried to make it as romantic as possible. I had already cleared my feelings to her long ago. But, I had never proposed to her.
“I had felt that we had gotten very close to each other in the past year and a half. We basically spent all our time at each other’s homes during holidays. We also studied potions together at school.
“So I guessed, it was the right time. But…” He suddenly looked up at Magnus and Ragnar’s faces, there was a conflict in Severus’ eyes, “You are going to hate me for this.”
“What did you do?” Magnus inquired seriously.
“I… I used legilimency on her when I confessed. The moment I told her about my true feelings, and intentions to date her publicly, she looked frozen for a few seconds. I couldn’t take it so I looked in her head as she gave me the answer.
“She told me, that I was sweet, kind, friendly and reliable. She liked me… but only as a friend. She never saw me the other way. However, she wished me luck that I find someone like myself, a compatible woman. She then offered to continue the friendship and forget what just happened.” He revealed.
“What did you see with Legilimency?” Magnus asked him straight.
Severus sighed, it sounded highly disappointed, “I saw the truth. The real reason why she didn’t respond favourably to my proposal. The moment I told her about my feelings and intentions, the first thing that ran in her mind was her future life images of what if she were to say yes.
“S-She saw me as an ugly, hideous, unlikable, anti-social man. She saw herself being mocked by others for dating me. She saw marrying me but not being able to live happily, she saw herself having my child, who looked hideous as well, borderline demonic.
“I learnt that she saw me this way from the start. But due to my intelligence and willingness to help her, these thoughts of disgust towards me had subsided. But they resurfaced as soon as I proposed to her. There was much more… that I don’t want to say, it was just not good.”
“THAT BITCH!” Ragnar angrily got up.
“Don’t, don’t be angry at her.” Severus stopped him, “I’d do the same if I was her. She is a beautiful woman with a cheerful and likeable personality. She rejects a dozen love letters every single month. I too would have wanted a beautiful partner… Perhaps I was the fool, trying to score above my capacity. It was probably just infatuation. She was my first friend, one who was beautiful. I was a simple fool, who blindly followed the first person to be warm to him.” Severus said in a condescending tone.
“Don’t worry, I will concoct an awesome beauty potion for you. It will make you a handsome man.” Ragnar offered him.
Severus shook his head, albeit showing an appreciating smile, “Thanks, Ragnar. You are one of my two best friends. I am graced enough by fate, if it exists. But I don’t want that potion. To alter myself is to reject myself. Bellatrix is a beauty, Lucius is a handsome man, but are they the same from the inside? No, they are rotten.
“While I may be ugly from outside, I can proudly say that I fight those monsters, that I am a brave man from inside.” He faced Magnus then, “I wasn’t going to tell you two all this, but after seeing Emma, I decided to do it. Magnus, if you don’t like her, just tell her right now. Don’t make her face this agony. Because if you drag this until the future, it will hurt much more. And I don’t know if she has the same strength as me to handle it.”
Magnus smiled and patted Severus’ shoulder, “I understand. And goddamn, I got busy with work just for a year and our boy Severus grew so much. My friend, my brother, I can tell you, your soul is beautiful. To be able to still not hate Lily, I bow to you. Because if it was me, I’d have bullied her, I know, I’m a bastard. God knows why so many people like me and follow me, as if I don’t have any flaws.
“While in reality, I have so many flaws… perhaps more than anyone.”
Ragnar laughed, “Nice, here I thought you were a delusional bastard. It calms me to know you’re instead a self-enlightened bastard.”
Severus and Ragnar laughed at Magnus’ annoyed face. So he decided to make fun of Ragnar as well, but then for some reason, the Gryffindor four came to him.
“Oh, what do we have here? Four detention lovers. What do you want?” Magnus asked them, teasing them at the same time.
Sirius stepped forward and with utmost confidence, voiced, “Magnus, we have come to bargain”
