Chapter 273 - Dragon-Taming Operation
As they made their choices, they quickly filled out the registration form while everyone was also doing the same after making their choices.
"What are you going to pick?" a person asked the lady beside him.
"Me? I can only register for recon. You know, my parents are against me joining this kind of cult. They would break my legs if they found out," the lady said.
"In that case, you might as well YOLO and go for assault if they are going to break your legs anyway," the person encouraged.
However, the lady quickly replied, "Are you crazy? In that case, they wouldn\'t just break my legs. They will kill me!"
As the crowd discussed their choices and made up their minds before handing in their registration forms, the tally eventually came out after they were assessed.
Without any surprise, 70% of the crowd chose recon while 20% logistics. Only a mere 10% chose assault, but it was still a higher count than Jeffrey anticipated.
"Four new assault members, huh? This is a pleasant surprise," Jeffrey muttered as he spoke to his fellow team, "I was only expecting one or two out of this crowd to join the assault group. Nevertheless, you guys should quickly get them sorted into their chosen roles."
"I will contact the upper management for further instructions. If there are any spies, information on our recruitment would have reached the peacekeeping forces by now. So we need to wrap up matters here quickly and scatter before they arrive."
"Understood," the official members complied before dividing the crowd into their three groups.
However, a person remained behind before he said to the assault leader, "Speaking of the peacekeeping forces, I heard they seem to be planning to make a move on the Silvercove Guardian. I think we are safe for now."
"The Silvercove Guardian?" Jeffrey paused with a frown for a moment before he asked, "That timid dragon that resides on the offshore island?"
"Yes, exactly that thing. It seems like the peacekeeping forces are determined to tame it to control it instead of leaving a potential hazard lying around," the person said.
Jeffrey\'s frown deepened before he spat, "They are playing with fire."
"Although I don\'t know how strong the dragon has grown with all that interdimensional creatures it preyed on in the area, I do know that some things shouldn\'t be forced. If it\'s not our enemy now, we shouldn\'t make it our enemy."
"Well, it\'s the peacekeeping forces, after all," the person shrugged before he joked, "If you have a complaint, then you should bring it up with them. Perhaps, they will listen to you."
"Yeah, listen to me, then lock me up for some torturous interrogation," Jeffrey rolled his eyes before spitting, "I\'m good, thanks."
…
…
…
Silvercove City, offshore
At that moment, the peacekeeping force\'s plan was already in motion as they had Dragon Island surrounded with their troops.
"Captain Nikolai, the men are all in position," a peacekeeping soldier reported after receiving the news from the other soldiers through the walkie-talkie.
"Good!" Captain Nikolai nodded with a firm look.
As he gazed at Dragon Island in the distance from his boat, he quickly gave the order, "Have our men tighten the encirclement and ready their nets for the capture immediately!"
"Yes, captain!" the peacekeeping soldier immediately complied.
But before the soldier could relay the orders to the other soldiers through the walkie-talkie, Captain Nikolai quickly reminded, "And remember! Our goal is to tame the dragon, not to kill it!"
"But what if the dragon reacts violently during the process of trying to capture it and tries to kill our men, captain?"
"Then we have no choice but to use excessive force and beat it into submission. But, unless I give the order, no one should deliver it a fatal blow, understand?" Captain Nikolai stated with a firm tone while casting his greedy eyes on Dragon Island.
If he could tame the dragon as his own pet, he would definitely become a hero among the people.
"Understood, captain!"
Shortly after, the order was delivered to the peacekeeping forces surrounding the island before their dozen ships steadily advance until they reached the island\'s shores.
"Update!" Captain Nikolai demanded.
"Our men have just reached the shore, but the dragon has yet to be alerted, sir!" the informant reported clearly with discipline.
"Oh? Is it sleeping?" Captain Nikolai muttered with a surprise before he furrowed his brows for a moment and said, "Given the dragon\'s timid nature, it would have been alerted by now. If it\'s asleep, then…"
After pondering for a moment, Captain Nikolai demanded, "Give me some satellite support. What\'s the situation on the dragon?"
"Sir, it is as you guessed. The dragon is asleep," the informant shortly after receiving intel from the satellite.
Captain Nikolai\'s eyes lit up immediately.
"Such perfect timing! Ready the nets and have the men proceed with the plan now!" Captain Nikolai ordered before adding, "We will also be approaching the island. For such an important mission, I don\'t want there to be any delay in our chain of command."
"Yes, sir!"
The orders were quickly passed down before the peacekeeping soldiers advanced towards the island\'s center, where the titled Silvercove Guardian was resting.
Everything seemed to be progressing smoothly as the peacekeeping soldiers inched closer and closer to the island\'s center.
But as they came within a 100-yard radius on the dragon, it quickly picked up the scent of humans before its eyes snapped open.
Roar!
The dragon immediately gave a majestic and mighty roar before taking to the skies with a powerful flap of its wings, causing strong winds to blow out in all directions from its take-off point.
"Captain, the dragon has awoken and taken flight to escape!"
"Send everyone in and cast the nets now! Don\'t let it reach high altitude! Otherwise, this mission will be a failure!" Captain Nikolai thundered.
"Yes, sir!"
Swish, swish, swish~!
The dragon\'s wings were quickly caught by several large black nets after the peacekeeping soldiers rushed in and fired them!
Roar!!!
The dragon issued another mighty roar, but it was evidently panicked and afraid as it violently struggled to break free from the nets.
Even so, its desperate roars reached the city and alarmed the people!
